Your Day of Surgery
Instructions for the Day of Surgery
- All surgery patients MUST park and enter from the rear of the building.
- Do not eat or drink anything (including water) after midnight on the day before surgery. This includes breakfast, gum chewing, hard candy and mints.
- Bring all medications you are currently taking with you the day of surgery.
- Please be sure to take: Blood Pressure medication with a sip of water. Consult your physician whether you should take any other medications before surgery and which medications not to take. If you use a c-pap machine for sleep apnea, please bring it with you.
- You will not be allowed to drive yourself home following surgery. Have a responsible adult with you to drive you home. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of your surgery. It is extremely important for a responsible adult to be with you immediately after surgery and to remain with you for 24 hours after surgery.
- If you should develop a sudden cold, a runny nose or fever prior to your scheduled surgery, please notify your doctor immediately
- Do not wear any make-up, fingernail polish, cologne, hairpins, hair pieces, contact lenses, false eyelashes, sandals or flip flops.
Hand Cases Only: Do not wear artificial nails on operative hand.) - Do Not Wear any jewelry (including body piercing). Leave all jewelry and valuables at home.
- Wear loose comfortable clothing that is big enough to accommodate a large bandage after surgery. Cotton underwear and cotton sock’s are allowed.
- On returning home, you will be given written discharge instructions regarding diet, rest, exercise and medications.
- A consent form must be signed prior to any medication is given or surgery is performed. In the case of minors, a parent or legal guardian must sign all consent forms and remain with the minor for the duration of the stay.
- Do not drive or operate any motor vehicle, drink alcohol or make any important decisions for 24 hours after any anesthesia. Some side effects of anesthesia may include nausea, dizziness, and muscle soreness.
Visitor Policy
Prior to surgery we will attempt to allow one visitor in the holding room, but this cannot be guaranteed. All patients under the age of 18 will need a parent present in the holding room prior to surgery.Visitors will not be permitted to stay in holding rooms while the patient is pt clear).
